About
Just a little study of philosophy will reveal to anyone the soundness of truth, and the satisfaction and stability found in knowledge and wisdom. I hope to provide readers with bite-sized chucks that reveal absolute truth, and provide knowledge, wisdom, and understanding that will result an enriched life. I do not claim to be a great mind, thinker, or philosopher. I am just one beggar showing another beggar where to find bread. And I do know where to find it.
Is this for Real is a challenge to the flawed philosophy of our post-modern Humanistic culture. Post-modernism is simply a revival of skepticism coupled with cynicism. Skepticism says that “the only thing that you can know with certainty is that you can’t know anything for certain”. If you know any basic philosophy and know a little about the early skeptics like Pyrrho of Ellis, you know that this precept of skepticism is epistemologically flawed. Epistemology is the branch of philosophy that deals with knowledge itself, and the ability to know something. You can’t claim to know something and the something is that nothing can be know with certainty. That’s a self-defeating argument.
I contend that there are indeed things that can be known, and that these things can be know with certainty. This is philosophically sound. Thus, since post-modernism is based on skepticism, I contend that the baseline philosophy of our culture today is flawed and must be challenged. Is this for Real is a website dedicated to that challenge. I contend that there is absolute truth, that truth is not relative to circumstance or personal preference, and that the truth can be known.
Some thoughts from the ancient source of absolute Truth:
Truth stands on it’s own whether we affirm it or not – “For we cannot do anything against the truth, but only for the truth.” 2 Corinthians 13:8
We can know the truth, and it will give us exactly what we need – “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32
